We appreciate all the interest in Rusty's health and would like to be able to give you more frequent updates but we don't always get a lot of information from the doctors. They just let Rusty know that what he is experiencing is what every cancer patient experiences with chemotherapy treatments. Until we have something specific, we are only able to tell everyone that he is having normal reactions to the chemotherapy which is unpleasant. He will continue treatments in the future. This is a slow process and he will not see immediate results from the treatment.

Rusty received some encouraging news this week from a recent scan. His tumors are somewhat reduced. We are elated at the news!!

Rusty was honored with the Best Country Band at the Austin Music Awards on March 12th. Rusty also appeared second of the ten bands nominated in the Roots/Rock category. The Awards are held the first day of SXSW and sponsored by the Austin Chronicle. Rusty is very happy to be recognized in Austin and thanks everyone who voted for him!

Rusty started chemo again on 2/20 and will begin his oral chemotherapy again as well. He had such a wonderful weekend in Austin last weekend. He had dinner with high school friends Friday and played the Saxon Pub on Saturday to a standing room only crowd. He had several friends come in to play that night from John Inmon to Layton DePenning to Monte Montgomery to Leonard Arnold from Nashville to Coby Wier and many more. What an incredible night! Rusty also joined WC Clark for a moment of Austin history. The entire evening was a “who’s who” of Austin. Rusty said it was the best weekend of his life. He will never forget it nor will anyone in attendance. We all are praying he will be able to endure the chemotherapy after a break from it for the past few weeks.

Rusty started his infusion chemotherapy today after doctors discontinued for a short time. He is also staring his oral chemotherapy on Monday. Everyone is praying that he will be able to tolerate the treatments in the future. The doctors are treating his cancer aggressively as much as Rusty’s system can tolerate.

The Dr. took Rusty off all Chemo treatments for 2 weeks. They will start him back the first part of February. It seems to be more than his body can take. They will only start him on 1 chemo pill (Xeloda) twice daily in a couple of weeks. Rusty is very happy about this decision. Hopefully he will start to feel better soon!

Last night there was an incredible lineup of talent at the Fredericksburg Event Center to help continue to pay for the expensive medications that Rusty will need throughout his treatment. Special thanks goes to Charlie Bishop, John Christopher Way, Tim Henderson, The McKay Brothers, Walt Wilkins, George Ensle, Freddie Krc, John Arthur Martinez, Geronimo Trevino, Mike Blakely, Tommy Alverson, Johnny Bush, Chris Wall, Bobby Rambo, Sammy Hendricks, Doug Davis, Bart Trotter & Randy Brown. These performers gave their time and talent to help Rusty continue to receive medication to prolong his life. Rusty would also like to thank J. D. Adams, owner of the Fredericksburg Event Center and Kelly Counts who assists Mr. Adams in providing a beautiful venue in the Hill Country . The event would not have happened without the work of Neal Brown of GTT Entertainment who organized the event. Hill Country Music donated a beautiful guitar and many of the artists donated money from the sale of their compact discs. Rusty is so very blessed to have such love and friendship in his life and we thank everyone for their generous donations!

Rusty is having chemotherapy infusions (a total of 4 so far) with a daily regimen of chemo in pill form which has recently been placed "on hold" due to combination sickness.   As with any treatment of this nature, he is having good and bad days. He is not very comfortable as the side effects of the medications are brutal and will have to be dealt with by more prescriptions and more costs. He will be having a scan done mid February to see how he is responding to the chemo treatments. Thank you all for your love and prayers and financial support. Rusty is astounded by the help he is getting from all of his fans.  He hopes to post a note of thanks here soon.

On Saturday, Dec. 1st, Rusty was surrounded by friends and fans at Poodie’s Hilltop Bar & Grill in Spicewood, TX for an impromptu benefit to assist Rusty with medical costs. The evening was successful in both contributions of money and talent. The Magnolia Band entertained the crowd until Rusty took the stage at 11:30 p.m.. What followed was a moment of Austin music history. Rusty was joined by his sons Coby on guitar, Bon on drums and Neil on congas and John Fannin, Todd Potter, Derek Groves also on guitar and Andy Tarrant on bass guitar. W C Clark, Godfather of Austin blues and friend of Rusty’s, joined them on stage to give Rusty a break. The evening ended with “Can’t You See” with WC & Rusty sharing the vocals in a musical exchange. It was a true Texas moment.  There was standing room only and the crowd greeted every artist on the stage with enthusiasm for the music and love for the musicians. In the audience were other Central Texas musicians that Rusty has known for many years such as Chris Wall, Mike Blakely, Donnie Price, Michael Ballew and many others. Thank you all for coming!

Rusty has been diagnosed with cancer and needs your help, love and support.
Not only are there expenses that need to be taken care of immediately, Rusty will be incurring a lot of additional bills for medications, treatments and medical care. He does not have medical insurance.

Donations to help Rusty can be made via PAYPAL. You do not need a PAYPAL account to make a donation. Proceeds will be directed specifically to medical expenses. Benefit concerts, special events, and further announcements will be posted in the near future on this website.  He will also continue to do a few shows he's already had on the schedule and we will continue to keep you updated as needed.
